Leskovac is a town in the Jablanički district. It is known for its petoreche, a phenomenon rare in the world, which is located in the Leskovac basin. As the administrative center of the Jablanica district, the city of Leskovac has several institutions in the region. The city dates back to the era of the Roman Empire. In the Middle Ages, it was called Glubočica, then Dubočica, and the town was named Leskovac after the hazel forests, i.e. hazelnuts. Today, Leskovac is the center of the Jablanica district, which includes the municipalities of Bojnik, Medveđa, Lebane, Vlasotince and Crna Trava, as well as the town-type settlements of Vučje and Grdelica. Although economically severely weakened, Leskovac is still the economic and cultural center of the Jablanica district where, in addition to a large number of primary and secondary schools, there are two higher schools (Economic and Textile) and one faculty - Technological, which educates students as part of the University of Niš.
