The municipality of Kovin consists of 10 settlements. Due to its extremely favorable location, abundance of water and favorable climate, the area of the municipality has been attractive for life since ancient times. Its inhabitants have lived at the expense of the Danube for centuries. The Danube connected this area with surrounding towns and larger centers and opened it to the world. People founded a settlement here in ancient prehistoric times. It was during the flowering of the old Neolithic, Starčevo culture in the 7th millennium BC. The first "Starčevo" settlement was founded on the site of today's "City". A few hundred years after the death of the first settlement, in the era of the "Vinčana" culture, a small settlement was founded again in the same place, our "City". It lived in the 5th, 4th and part of the 3rd millennium BC. Close to two millennia, during the Bronze and Iron Ages, our "City" also changed its physiognomy under the influence of new historical conditions and events. Originally a peaceful, peace-loving settlement, it became a fortification, a defensive fortress that provided security to its inhabitants depending on the needs and war events. This happened around 1800 AD, and from then until 1604 AD (that is, around 3,500 years) the "City" was a prominent Danube fortress changing numerous and different masters. Kovin has almost 14,000 inhabitants, while the entire municipality of Kovin, according to the last census of 2022, has about 21,496 inhabitants.Would you like your company to be in our business catalogue?
