Užice is a town in the municipality of Užice, in the Zlatibor District, in the Republic of Serbia. It lies on the banks of the Djetinja River. The medieval ruins of an already very important city have been preserved. Užice was the headquarters of the partisan army in the fall of 1941. In 1946, the name was changed to Titovo Uzice in honor of Josip Broz Tito, and the old name was returned in 1992. Uzice is the center of metal and machinery industry and fruit growing. The first inhabitants of Užice and its surroundings were the Illyrians, that is, their tribes Partini and Autarijati. They left their tombs and monuments all over the Užice region. With the arrival of the Romans, these areas were included in the province of Dalmatia, and the Illyrians were Romanized. On the site of today's Užice, there was a smaller town called Capedunum (lat. Capedunum), which played an important role in this Roman province. According to the latest census from 2022, the city of Užice has about 63,702 inhabitants, and the entire area of Užice has 70,172 inhabitants.
