Lazarevac lies in the picturesque part of Šumadija Kolubara, in the immediate vicinity of the Kolubara river, at an altitude of 157m. Šumadija Kolubara is inclined towards the river Kolubara, after which it got its name. The northwest side of the Kolubara plain, on which Lazarevac lies, is flat, while the southeast is hilly and predominantly fruit-growing. The territory of this commune includes this part of our country, which is made up of different rocks, both in terms of geological age and appearance, as well as in terms of their topographical and chemical composition. The geologically oldest rocks of this commune include Paleozoic crystal boxes, followed by Triassic and Cretaceous limestones, sandstones and marls. The rather stormy geological past of this area is evidenced by the large mass of exhumed volcanic rocks of dacite and andesite in Rudovci and Baroševac.
