Zrenjanin is located on the western edge of the Banat loess plateau, at the place where the canalized Begej River flows into the former bed of the Tisa River. The area of the municipality is a distinctly flat area. The city of Zrenjanin lies at 20°23' east longitude and 45°23' north latitude, in the center of the Serbian part of the Banat region, on the banks of the Begej and Tisa rivers. The altitude of Zrenjanin is 80 meters, and on the territory of the city it ranges from 77 - 97 meters. Zrenjanin is the largest city of the Serbian part of Banat and is its political, economic, cultural and sports center. Zrenjanin is the largest city in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and the second in the Republic of Serbia in terms of the area of its administrative territory (1326 km2), and more than 20 nationalities live in it. It develops with a tradition of almost seven centuries, because it was mentioned as a settlement under the name Bečkerek for the first time in historical writings as early as 1326. In 2007, it was declared the City of the Future, and in 2008, the World Bank ranked it first among cities in Serbia in terms of the overall organized business environment. In just two years, Zrenjanin concluded more than 20 contracts on "greenfield" investments with foreign and domestic companies, worth more than 400 million euros. New industrial zones are springing up on the outskirts of the city, and textile, mechanical, food, chemical, electrical, pharmaceutical and other industry products leave Zrenjanin for Europe and the world... At the crossroads of important land and waterways, 50 kilometers from Novi Sad, 75 from Belgrade and 50 from the border with the European Union (Romania), Zrenjanin is today an open city, ready to accept new ideas, ways of business thinking or the development of new technologies. Zrenjanin is also a city of traditional hospitality and opportunities for a pleasant vacation in its surroundings.
