Valjevo is a city in Serbia, the seat of the Kolubara administrative district. It is located in Western Serbia, in the Kolubara district, less than 100 kilometers southwest of Belgrade. The city core is located in the basin through which the Kolubara River flows. Valjevo is one of the larger and more developed settlements in Serbia. According to the latest census from 2022, the city of Valjevo has about 63,000 inhabitants, and the entire city district of Valjevo has a little less than 82,541 inhabitants. It is located at an average altitude of 185 meters. During the history of the Serbian people, the people of Valjevo often had a prominent role in movements for national liberation, but, in addition to military commanders and national leaders, there is also a significant number of important writers, artists and scientists from Valjevo. At the same time, this city ranks among the oldest settlements in Serbia. The name Valjevo is found for the first time in a document preserved in the Historical Archive in Dubrovnik, dated 1393. Since then, the settlement has had six hundred years of confirmed continuous existence.
