in Topola
Topola is a town settlement in Serbia in the municipality of Topola in Šumadijsko district. It is located at the foot of the Oplenac hill, 80 km from Belgrade, 42 km from Kragujevac, 40 km from Gornji Milanovac and 12 km from Aranđelovac. It is surrounded by the Kamenica valley, the Jasenica valley, Oplenec and its deciduous and coniferous forest. Topola was first mentioned as a settlement during the Austrian occupation of northern Serbia (1717-1739). In the list of border nahiyas of Serbia after the Peace of Pozarevac (1717), it was located in the Kragujevac district under the name of Dopala. The original village of Kamenica was called Topola because of the river of the same name. Topola was celebrated by Karađorđe Petrović, who chose it as the center of the part of Serbia liberated from the Turks. The mausoleum of the Karađorđević family, the church of St. George on the top of Oplenac, above Topola, dominates this part of Šumadija. The large five-domed church with a central base is lined with white wedding marble, and the interior is covered with mosaics (40 million cubes in 15,000 shades). Here are also copies of the most beautiful frescoes from 60 Serbian monasteries, 725 compositions with 1500 figures. The construction lasted for years, but that's why this building represents a kind of anthology of Serbian medieval fresco painting. About 6,000 inhabitants live in the settlement of Topola, while the entire municipality of Topola, according to the latest census from 2022, has about 19,221 inhabitants.Would you like your company to be in our business catalogue?
