The urban settlement in the municipality of the same name, Obrenovac, is located at the confluence of two rivers - Sava and Kolubara. Due to its location near Belgrade, this settlement in the course of its turbulent history suffered numerous destructions, burnings, but also natural disasters, most often floods. One of such historical events took place in 1815 after the Battle of Palež. In Obrenovac there is one of the most famous high schools, which has a long tradition of over 90 years, and in addition to it, Obrenovac also has two secondary schools and four primary schools. Before Prince Miloš Obrenovac got its current name (December 7, 1859), this settlement was called Palež. According to the last population census from 2022, 69,376 inhabitants live here.
