Ivanjica

in Ivanjica

Ivanjica is a place in southwestern Serbia. It is located in a valley at the foot of the Golija and Javor slopes, on the banks of the Moravica River, at 468 m above sea level. It is surrounded by forests and pastures. Even before the creation of the city, Ivanjica and its surroundings were inhabited by the Romans, as evidenced by the remains of their culture. Their cemeteries have been preserved, and there is still an old Roman bridge in the village of Kumanica. During the Turkish era, the territory of Ivanjica belonged to the Sjenica nahija. There used to be a road station - an inn, on the way from Sjenica and Nova Varoš to Požega and Čačak. The terrain around the inn was all in fields, which is how Ivanjica got its name. According to the last census from 2022, the municipality of Ivanjica has 27,767 inhabitants, while the town of Ivanjica has about 12,000 inhabitants.
