Vlasotince is a town and seat of the municipality of Vlasotince in the Jablanički District. According to Turkish sources, in 1516 it was a cultural and agricultural seat. The settlement is mentioned under the Turkish name "Vlašotinac" and is part of the Sofia Sandzak. In 1879, there were 519 houses and about 2626 inhabitants in Vlasotinac. According to the law of May 14, 1878, it belonged to the Vlasin county. In 1879, the Vlasotina district was created instead of Vlasinski. Generally speaking, the municipality of Vlasotince has a hilly-mountainous character (with developed and scattered relief), which makes up over 80% of its territory.
