Prijepolje is a town settlement in the municipality of Prijepolje in the Zlatibor district. and the largest city of Polimlje. It is located at the confluence of Mileševka and Lim, at the foot of Jadovnik mountain. In its immediate vicinity is the Mileševa monastery and the old town of Mileševac. During the Second World War, the famous Battle of Prijepolje was fought there. The oldest mention of Prijepolje under that name is from 1332 by Guillaume Adam, and it is mentioned for the first time in 1343 in the annals of the Republic of Dubrovnik. In the Middle Ages, Prijepolje developed as the market place of the Mileševa monastery and was located on the so-called the Dubrovnik road that connected the central Adriatic coast with the central and eastern parts of the Balkan Peninsula. The development of Prijepolje is therefore closely connected with the merchants who passed through it and traded in it since the Middle Ages. About 15,000 inhabitants live in the settlement of Prijepolje, while according to the latest census from 2022, the municipality of Prijepolje has 32,698 inhabitants.
