PEĆ - located in the Peć administrative district, this city is also the center of the municipality of the same name. Peć is located near Prokletije in the east and the river Pećka Bistrica, which flows into Beli Drim. In the relative vicinity of the city, at a distance of about 3 km, there is the Rugovska Klisura, which is considered one of the deepest and longest gorges in Europe. Peć is located about 150 km from Skopje, 250 km from Tirana and 280 km from Podgorica. In ancient times, around the 13th century, the seat of the Serbian Orthodox Church was located in this city. Today, the Peć Patriarchate Monastery is protected as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Middle Ages. The term Patriarchate of Peć includes the entire set of churches located near and around Peć or the Pećka Bistrica river and at the beginning of the Rugovska gorge. It is one of the most important monuments of Serbian history, where over the centuries the mausoleum of Serbian patriarchs and archbishops was located, as well as the seat of the church. From its very beginning in the 13th century, writers, theologians, artists gathered here and all of them in their own way left some traces and testimonies of their stay and experiences here. Accordingly, today the Patriarchate is not only the former center of the church system, but also a location where numerous artistic legacies are stored. It is worth mentioning that there is also an important natural monument - Sham-dud, which is over 750 years old.
