in Orahovac

Orahovac - located in the southwestern region of Kosovo and Metohija, this town is also the center of the municipality of the same name. The first written information about this town comes from 1348, when Orahovac was mentioned in the charter of the Serbian king and emperor Stefan Dušan. Orahovac was attached to the Hilandar monastery in 1405. There is also a church record that states that the Arnauts robbed the "Oraovac church" on April 6, 1898. This misdeed was reported to the imperial and church authorities and a reward of 2 Turkish lira was issued to anyone who returned the stolen church objects. According to legend, over the next two years everything went wrong for the unsuspecting thieves - one of them died, another became mentally disturbed and the third fell ill. The brother of the murdered thief, Arnautin, tried to secretly return the stolen goods, so he entered into an agreement through an intermediary to return the stolen goods to the priest in exchange for five pairs of woolen socks. However, when the moment of handover came, he still did not return everything that was taken - he only had the only shroud from the temple, while the thieves had already melted down the silver cross. In the center of the city stands the Church of the Assumption of St. The Virgin and the square in front of her. It was built on the remains and foundations of the previous temple. Among other significant monuments, the remains of a small church and a couple of old Serbian graves with monuments are preserved in the vineyard on the site of Dubljana, while in the town itself there is a residence of the monastery of the Peć Patriarchate, which was built in 1848.
