Opovo is a town settlement in Serbia in the municipality of Opovo in the South Banat district. In the vicinity of Opovo there are rich archaeological sites that belong to the period of the Starčevo culture. In the area of today's Opovo, there used to be two settlements - Opovo and Želj. They were located in the immediate vicinity, on the left bank of the Tamis. It is difficult to say which of the two villages is older, but it seems that it is Želj. Namely, Želj was recorded as early as 1334, while Opovo was mentioned only in the second half of the 17th century. 4,700 inhabitants live in the settlement of Opovo, and according to the last census from 2022, the municipality of Opovo has 9,476 inhabitants.
