Odžaci municipality is located in the western part of Bačka, on the left bank of the Danube in a length of 9.5 km. Territorially, it belongs to the West-Bač district of AP Vojvodina, Republic of Serbia. It is surrounded by the municipalities of Apatin, Sombor, Kula, Vrbas, Bačka Palanka, Bač and borders the Republic of Croatia on the Danube. The territory of the municipality of Odžaci covers an area of 41,115.89 ha. It consists of 9 cadastral municipalities: KO Odžaci, KO Bački Gračac, KO Bački Brestovac, KO Srpski Miletić, KO Bogojevo, KO Karavukovo, KO Deronje, KO Ratkovo and KO Lalić, which are simultaneously inhabited places. According to the size of the territory, the municipality of Odžaci is one of the smaller municipalities in the area of Vojvodina. The municipal center, the Odžaci settlement, is located in the center of the municipality's territory, while the other settlements are radially distributed around the municipal center. The first mention of Odzak dates back to 1557 or 1558. Odzaci was then mentioned as a settlement in Bačka that was founded by the Turks during the military operations they conducted in southern Hungary. There are several theories about the origin of the name of the settlement, one of them is that the name originates from the name of the Turkish military detachment that stayed in the area of the settlement, there is also a theory according to which the name originates from the Turkish word for chimney, (due to the chimneys that protruded from the dugouts of the first settlement), as well as that Odžak got its name from the Bosnian Odžak, where 7 Serbian families immigrated in the 16th century.
