Vršac is a town settlement in the municipality of Vršac in the South Banat District, one of the oldest Banat towns located on the southeastern edge of the Pannonian Plain, at the foot of the Vršac Mountains. According to the 2022 census, the municipality of Vršac has 45,972 inhabitants, while the city of Vršac itself has about 37,000 inhabitants. According to this, Vršac is the second largest city in the district and the largest city in Vojvodina without the status of the center of the district. The first traces of settlements on Vršački brdo date back to prehistoric times. The substructure below the Vršačka tower (medieval fortification) is 21 m high, with walls 2.5 m thick. The area of today's city and its surroundings was also inhabited in the ancient past. Today, viticulture, craftsmanship, trade and industry are important. Vršac wines are known all over the country. In the vicinity of Vršac, there are many picnic areas and hunting grounds. The city also has a well-known Center for Sports Gliding with an airport. Apart from that, there are also the picnic areas Ritishevo, Straža, Parta, the DTD canal and artificial lakes that enrich the extraordinary surroundings of the city.
