Vlasin Lake is an accumulation lake in the southeast of Serbia with an area of 15 km² and a depth of up to 35 m. The lake is located in the municipality of Surdulica. The lake is located at 1,204 m above sea level. Three villages are located on the shores of the lake: Vlasina Okruglica, Vlasina Rid and Vlasina Stojkovićeva. Vlasin Lake was formed in the period 1949-1954. year. In the place where the Vlasina Lake is located today, in the past there was a swamp, known as the Vlasina Mud, with sedge, reeds and only occasional water bodies, and the Vlasina River sprang up. The natural beauties and rarities of this area consisting of: mountains, gorges, waterfalls, springs, rivers, flora and fauna, as well as the favorable influence of the climate and the silence of the mountain nature make this place ideal for staying in different periods of the year. Due to these characteristics of the area, the Institute for Nature Protection is conducting research in order to protect this area as a nature park. Lake Vlasina is rich in perch, chub, catfish, carp, white carp and trout.
