When you head south from Belgrade by highway or railway, at the 90th kilometer you will find yourself in Velika Plana, the center and seat of the municipality of the same name. According to the last census of 2022, it has 35,676 inhabitants in thirteen settlements, on 345 km2, and is one of the most densely populated municipalities in Serbia. The population density is about 50% higher than the average of the Republic of Serbia. About 16,000 inhabitants live in the settlement of Velika Plana itself. About 8,800 people are employed, about 7,700 in the economy and 1,100 in the non-economy. The municipality of Velika Plana has an extremely favorable geographical position because it is located in the central area of the Republic of Serbia. It is located partly in the fertile Moravian valley and partly on the hills of Šumadija. In a length of about 36 kilometers, it is "crossed" by the waterway of the Great Morava River, the former "Constantinople Road", a modern highway and a mainline railway.
