There are several legends about the origin of the name Varvarin. According to some, it was because the Turks found the dead body of Iconia, kiss Todor of Stalac, that they cut it up and boiled it, showing themselves to be barbarians. According to others, during the siege of the city of Stalać, a grandmother named Varvara instructed the Turks from there to watch where the geese were coming out of the city on the Morava, so they went that way to the city, which they did. According to others, the Turks behaved barbarically, burned the city and killed everything alive that they found. According to the last census from 2022, Varvarin has about 14,382 inhabitants, while 2,500 inhabitants live in the Varvarin settlement.
