The municipality of Ub covers 456.7 km² northwest of Šumadija, 55 km from Belgrade. It includes the valleys of the two rivers Tamnava and Uba, as well as low and slightly hilly terrain. According to the last census of 2022, about 25,889 inhabitants live in 37 villages. The center of the municipality is the town of Ub with about 7,000 inhabitants. The first human communities formed in the area of today's municipality of Ub, according to historical traces and traces of human civilization that were discovered in the present-day settlements of Trlić, Kalinovac, Brgule and others, date back to the time of the Vinča culture, that is, in the period around 5,000 years before Christ. In the settlement of Čučuge, there are still traces from the Bronze Age. According to written records, the place Ub is located between the villages of Gunjevac and Sovljak, and the most realistic legend about the origin of the name of this place is the one that says that the word "UB" itself means "place". By the way, the city of Ub has always been a small town. Of the cultural and historical monuments, the most important is certainly the church - monastery in the village of Dokmir, which dates back to the 15th century. More precise research indicates that the monastery was rebuilt in 1415, so it can rightly be claimed that the monastery originates from an earlier period.
