Temerin is a city and the center of the municipality of the same name in Serbia, Vojvodina. The population of Temerin is about 19,000, and the entire municipality has 25,932 inhabitants according to the last census of 2022. The municipality of Temerin consists of the towns of Temerin, Bački Jarak and Sirig. In written documents, Temerin is mentioned for the first time in 1332 in a papal receipt addressed to Laurentius de Temerius, a parish priest, for the payment of a papal tax. Temerin was part of the Kingdom of Hungary until the Battle of Mohács in 1526. After that year, it was part of the Ottoman Empire. At that time, the Serbian population immigrated to Bačka and Temerin. Today, the municipality of Temerin is a multinational community of 16 nationalities and about 28,000 inhabitants.
