Shid is a town settlement in the municipality of Šid in the Srem District, located on the slopes of Fruška Gora. The altitude is 104 m. It is the seat of the westernmost municipality of Srema, and is located between the Danube River and the slopes of Fruška Gora in the north and the Sava River in the south. The area where Šid was built is a fruit growing region, with a large wine cellar. It is not known when Šid was formed as a settlement, there are only various assumptions. At the beginning of the 18th century, Šid was one of the largest settlements between Vinkovci, Vukovar and Sremska Mitrovica. There are written data for estimates of the size and importance of Šid. The earliest mention from that time is the information that Luka Natalis, vicar of the apostolic mission, died in Šid in 1702. About 17,000 inhabitants live in the Šid settlement, while according to the latest census from 2022, the entire Šid municipality has 28,202 inhabitants.
