Pećinci is a municipality and settlement in Srem, northern Serbia, located near the Danube River and the city of Sremska Mitrovica. It lies in the flatlands of Vojvodina, with fertile fields suitable for agriculture, which forms the basis of the local economy. The first written records of the settlement date back to the 15th century, and throughout history, Pećinci developed as an important local administrative and trade center. According to the latest census, the Pećinci municipality has around 18,000 inhabitants. The majority are Serbs, while minority communities, mainly Hungarians and Roma, are present in smaller numbers. The population is distributed between the central settlement of Pećinci and several smaller villages within the municipality. Demographic trends show a stable population in the central area, while rural areas have experienced a slight decline. Pećinci is known for preserving local traditions, cultural events, and customs.
