Palić, the lake and village of the same name, is located 8 kilometers north of Subotica. The mystery of its landscapes has always captivated the hearts of generations of visitors. The lake, luxurious parks, unusual buildings from the beginning of the 20th century, unusual peace and quiet make Palić an ideal place for a vacation. Luxury hotels and villas and top gastronomic offer are the features by which Palić is recognized and remembered. Promenades, beaches, bicycle paths, cultural, entertainment and sports facilities, as well as various events complement the offer of this tourist destination. The lake was created in ancient times as a spring, although the water of the lake mostly originates from the precipitation that filled the valley. Water flowed from the surrounding terrain washing away the sodium chloride and thus the lake became salty. There are legends that say that the lake is a remnant of the Pannonian Sea, but that it was created by the tears of the shepherd Paul who grazed his flock there. Lake Palić was first mentioned in written documents in 1462 as Pali (Paly). The first drawing, or map of the lake (Paligo Palus) dates from 1690.
