Novi Bečej is located in the central part of Vojvodina. With its atar, it covers the northwestern part of the middle Banat. Since it was built near the Tisza, it belongs to the group of settlements in the area. The geographic center of the settlement intersects the coordinates of 45° 36' north latitude and 20° 9' east longitude, or in other words, Novi Bečej is located at the 66th kilometer from the confluence of the Tisa River with the Danube. It is difficult to determine with certainty the first written mention of Novi Bečej, but it is certainly related to the existence of fortifications in the vicinity of this present-day city. The toponym Gradište, which is still preserved today, warns that the settlement around the fortress was also located further downstream from that site, next to the pier that for centuries was the link between the Banat and Bač coasts. According to the latest census from 2022, the municipality of Novi Bečej has 20,075 inhabitants, while the settlement of Novi Bečej has 13,500 inhabitants.
