Medveđa is a municipality and settlement in southeastern Serbia, located in the Jablanica District, in the mountainous region of the country’s southeast. It lies on a plateau with clean air and rich natural surroundings, making it suitable for livestock breeding and agriculture. The first written records of the settlement date back to the Middle Ages, and throughout history, Medveđa developed as a local administrative, cultural, and trade center. According to the latest census, the Medveđa municipality has around 7,000 inhabitants. The majority are Serbs, while minority communities, primarily Albanians and Roma, are present in smaller numbers. The population is distributed between the central settlement of Medveđa and surrounding villages. Demographic trends show a significant population decline in rural areas, while the town center maintains a relatively stable population. Medveđa is known for preserving local traditions, cultural heritage, and customs. Agriculture, livestock breeding, and small businesses form the basis of the local economy. Although tourism is not well developed, the natural beauty and mountainous landscapes offer potential for future growth. Today, Medveđa provides basic facilities for living and recreation, making it a peaceful and authentic destination for both visitors and local residents.
