Fruška gora is an island mountain and a national park in Srem. The largest part of Fruška Gora is located in Vojvodina, Serbia, while a small part extends into eastern Croatia, in the Vukovar-Srijem County. Fruška gora is about 75 km long and 12 to 15 km wide and covers an area of 255 km². Fruška gora was declared a national park in 1960 and thus became the first national park in Serbia. The highest peak is Crveni Čot (539 m). The larger cities surrounded by Fruška gora are Šid, Sremska Mitrovica, Ruma and Inđija in the southern part, while north of the mountain are Sremski Karlovci, Novi Sad, Beočin and Bačka Palanka as well as Ilok in Croatia. Many residents of these and other cities spend their vacations and holidays in numerous weekend settlements on the slopes of this mountain.
