Banatski Karlovac is a town in southern Banat in Vojvodina. It belongs to the municipality of Alibunar. It is interesting that Banatski Karlovac is a bigger place than Alibunar, but it is still not the municipal center. Most of the cadastral area of Banatski Karlovac belongs to the nature reserve Deliblatska Peščara. The weekend resort Devojacki Bunar belongs to Banatski Karlovac. The international road Belgrade-Vrsac-Temišvar, the main road E-94, passes through the settlement. Also, the railway route Belgrade-Vršac-Temišvar passes through the settlement. It is 65 km from Belgrade, 40 km from Pančevo and 25 km from Vršac. The place was settled in 1802 according to the plan and was named Karlsdorf after the then Minister of War and Navy, Archduke Karl. It was originally inhabited by Germans from the Baden area, and soon the Slavic population, mainly Catholic, from the municipalities of Karašova, Lupak and Klokotic moved in. Banatski Karlovac has a population of 5,500 according to the 2022 census. The ethnic composition of the place changed significantly after the Second World War when the German population was deported and the population from western Serbia was colonized.
