Bačka Topola is located in the southern part of the area between the Danube and the Tisza, in the central part of the former Bač-Bodroška County, i.e. in the central part of the current Bačka. Thanks to its favorable geographical position, this location was inhabited since prehistoric times. It is located in Vojvodina, in the central part of Bačka, on an area of 596 km². It borders the municipality of Subotica to the north, the municipality of Senta to the northeast, the municipality of Ada to the east, the municipality of Bečej to the southeast, the municipality of Mali Iđoš to the south, the municipality of Kula to the southwest, and the municipality of Sombor to the west. The municipality of Bačkotopol has 23 settlements. According to the last census from 2022, the municipality of Bačka Topola has a total of 26,620 inhabitants, and the city of Bačka Topola has 16,600 inhabitants. The national structure of the population is as follows: Hungarians - 59%, Serbs - 30%, Montenegrins - 1.4%, Ruthenians - 0.8%, Slovaks - 0.5%, others - 8.3%.
