Bačka Palanka is a town settlement in Serbia in the Bačka Palanka municipality in the Južnobački district. On the basis of archaeological findings and written documents, it has been proven that people have lived in these areas continuously from prehistoric times to the present day. The first settlements were built in the 11th century, and the name Palanka was mentioned in 1593. The area of the Bačka Palanka municipality is 579 km². This is about 100 km² more than the average size of Vojvodina municipalities, which means that it belongs to the group of larger municipalities in Vojvodina. Around 29,000 inhabitants live in the settlement of Backa Palanka, while according to the latest census from 2022, the entire municipality of Backa Palanka has 48,667 inhabitants.
