Apatin is a city and seat of the municipality of the same name in Bačka, Vojvodina, Serbia. Administratively, it belongs to Zapadnobački district. It is located on the left bank of the Danube, which represents the natural border with Croatia. To the north is Sombor, and to the south is Odzaci. Apatin, one of the most beautiful towns in Vojvodina, is located in the northwestern part of the extensive Bačka plains, on the left bank of the Danube. The extremely favorable geographical location, the proximity of the river and the natural resources of this region (fertile soil, forests by the river, abundance of fish on the hills and backwaters and wild game in the forests) have always attracted people to settle here, so even in prehistoric times the cultures of Sarmatians, Celts, Goths and other peoples alternated. According to the latest census from 2022, the municipality of Apatin has 23,383 inhabitants, while the city of Apatin has 18,000 inhabitants.
