Marija Pejatovic OXFORD SCHOOL

Marija Pejatovic

1. How and at what moment did you come up with the idea to start your own business?
I always wanted to work in education. During my studies, I dreamed of starting a private language school. After graduating, on the recommendation of a professor from college, I connected with older colleagues from another city and started my own business.

2. Have you always wanted to engage in your current activity?
My dream has always been to create my own educational environment and provide the best education to my course participants.

3. What are you proud of in your business?
What makes me happy and proud is that we have managed to create an environment where learning is joyful. We encourage curiosity and a love for learning and socializing, so our students still visit the school even after completing their courses.

4. What is the secret of your success? (List three qualities, behaviors, beliefs, or abilities)
Creativity, motivation, and continuous improvement.

5. How understanding has your environment been, and who has been your biggest support?
I have been fortunate to have everyone support me from the beginning and it's still the case today. My family and colleagues are my biggest support.

6. What is your guiding sentence?
Smile and the world will smile back at you.

7. Do you have role models who have motivated or continue to motivate you for further work?
Yes, my role model in teaching is my high school teacher, and today I am motivated by other successful teachers.

8. What have you had to give up?
Due to the specific working hours, I don't have time to socialize with friends during the workweek, but I make up for it during breaks.

9. What has driven you forward and how have you motivated yourself when times are tough?
When I see the curious eyes of my students, I always find motivation to be even better and to move forward. The positive energy of my students gives me strength to wait for the sun after the rain.

10. Why is it better for a woman to be an entrepreneur rather than being employed in a company?
Although it is sometimes difficult to overcome all obstacles, an entrepreneur has the opportunity to work on herself and for herself, she is independent, and constant proving strengthens her in every way.

11. How would you advise new female entrepreneurs or a younger version of yourself?
Be strong because you can do it. Dedication and continuous improvement are the keys to success.

12. On a scale of 1-10, how challenging is it to be a female entrepreneur in Serbia? (or being in a "male-dominated" field)
I believe it is much easier in our country for those whose salary is guaranteed. Being an entrepreneur means constantly caring for others who depend on you but also taking care of yourself, which is a big challenge.

13. When you are a woman in the business world, how common are indecent proposals?
People with integrity do not receive such offers regardless of their job position.

14. Where exactly do you see yourself in 5 years?
In the classroom, surrounded by cheerful children and younger colleagues. That's where I belong.

NEW IN OUR OFFER

GERMAN LANGUAGE COURSES
Logo cubes in teaching
Interactive whiteboard in teaching
Programming and robotics courses of the Kliker IT Center

The school was founded in 1997.

Types of courses:

  • all levels and all age groups
  • all types of translations
  • preparation for international exams

Our school is located in the very center of Leskovac and has 5 classrooms, an office, and additional facilities. The classrooms are spacious, comfortably furnished, and equipped with modern audio, video, and DVD devices. The school has an interactive whiteboard that is regularly used in classes and various additional activities (workshops, movie nights…). In teaching, we use textbooks and materials from foreign publishers, as well as accompanying audio, video, and DVD materials. A diverse school library is also available to both students and teachers.

Classes are conducted in small groups or individually and are delivered by a team of teachers using the most modern teaching methods. We work with preschool children, primary and secondary school students, as well as adults. When forming groups, we take into account both the age and the knowledge level of the participants, which are also the criteria for selecting programs and teaching methods. This makes our classes easy to follow and highly effective. In all cases, whether working with younger or “older” learners, classes are conducted as a communicative and interactive process, with the goal of helping students feel more confident, accept, and use the English language almost as their native one.

We pay special attention to adult learners for whom professional development is essential. We always strive to guide and motivate them on what can be a challenging path toward successfully mastering a foreign language, helping them persevere until the end. Through the use of professional literature, as well as workshops and seminars, our teaching team continuously improves their expertise, enhances the quality of instruction, and keeps pace with modern global developments.

Since 2001, OXFORD SCHOOL has been a member of the Association of Foreign Language Schools of Serbia, an associate member of the European Association for Quality Language Services. For students, this means high teaching standards and the application of modern methodology, appropriately qualified teaching staff, a high level of school equipment, professionalism and administrative transparency, regular assessment of students’ knowledge, openness to suggestions, a clearly defined complaints procedure, clearly structured learning levels, and alignment of foreign language proficiency levels with international standards.

Oxford School is a registered preparation center for Cambridge English exams. Since 2007, the school has regularly received awards for preparing candidates for Cambridge exams.

In addition to standard courses, the school also offers specialized courses, intensive courses, and individual lessons in the classroom or online (distance learning). There is also a translation bureau for all types of translations to and from English and German, as well as certified court interpreters for these two languages.

For the youngest learners, there is also an English playgroup every working day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

With the desire to complete our offer and, beyond languages, provide children and youth of Leskovac with the opportunity to actively participate in shaping their future, we decided, together with our partner – Kliker IT Center – to launch programming and robotics courses.

Through creative work and solving specific, real-world problems, students in our programming courses become familiar with the opportunities that the application and use of information technologies provide. Students are also introduced to modern trends in this field and its importance in contemporary society.
